Percentage Seeing Price Increases Soars

IN THE NORTHEAST, the number of FDIC survey respondents seeing commercial real estate price increases soared from the same period a year earlier. Moreover, it was the largest percentage to report seeing price increases in the Northeast in the five years since the statistics began to be compiled.

The survey results reveal that evaluations of commercial property transactions were the most positive in five years nationally as well. In addition to improvements in other commercial real estate categories, price increases on the national level during the quarter were seen by nearly 40% of respondents, compared with 29% in 1995, 26% in 1994, and only 12% in 1993.

The Northeast, however, saw the largest percentage increase, with 28% seeing price increases this quarter, compared with only 10% during the same period in 1995, and a mere 6% in 1993.
