Stephen Traub, ASA, is a designated and Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA). He is professionally qualified to appraise all types of real property and holds a specialty in ad valorem appraisal work. He is known as a thorough and thoughtful practitioner among clients and peers.
He began appraising property 25+ years ago and has appraised commercial and industrial as well as residential property in all six New England states and NJ. For a period of seven years, Steve headed the largest appraisal firm in New England with responsibility for more than 100 appraisers and support personnel. Now in private practice in his own firm, Steve focuses on appraisal assignments of prominent commercial real estate for lenders, municipal assessing departments, and attorneys involved in appraisal litigation. Steve has qualified as an expert witness in NH, ME, MA, and CT and is known for his logical and straight forward testimony.
During the late 1990s through the early 2000s, Steve was a prolific writer on many issues facing appraisers and real estate practitioners. He wrote a column regularly for the New England Real Estate Journal and has been published in Banker & Tradesman, Real Estate Valuation Magazine, the Appraisal Institute's Valuation Insights & Perspectives, and other industry periodicals.
He also published his own quarterly newsletter, Property Valuation Monitor SM and has written an award-winning brochure, Choosing a Commercial Real Estate Appraiser.
Steve graduated from Harvard University where he received his bachelors degree cum laude in Social Science/Economics. Subsequently, he completed graduate level courses at Harvard in financial accounting and real estate investment and finance. Moreover, he has completed more than forty appraisal courses/seminars offered through the Appraisal Institute, the IAAO, the American Society of Appraisers, and MIT's Center for Real Estate.
Steve's depth and breadth of experience with all types of sophisticated and complex real property in the northeast US has placed him at the forefront of the appraisal profession. He is looked upon as a trusted, competent, accurate, and credible appraiser.
